Pairings: Martin/Jack, Martin/Elena, Martin/Sam, Jack/Viv, Viv/Elena, Danny/Viv/Elena, Viv/Danny

MP: Breck Mallory, a trust-fund baby trying to change his life

TEASER: Haven House were people are celebrating a woman named Gail. A woman named Tyra is listing her accomplishments since coming to Haven House. Gail is now sober, has a new place, etc. Breck is standing nearby but looks sad. He seems out of place looking so WASPY surrounded by mostly women of color. Gail tells Tyra thank you and gives her and Breck gift bags to thank them for everything they did for her and her boys. In the bag are gift mugs that read "HERO" which Breck looks at like it's the best thing ever. Breck tells them that he's the one who should be saying thanks - that they have all inspired him to be a better person. Lots of emotion so he jokes that is enough about him and he cheers on Gail. The party comes alive again. Breck puts the mug into his red daypack and sneaks out onto the street. He walks to the corner, turns and vanishes.

Martin exits Haven House to find Sam sitting in the passenger seat looking at her laptop.

Jack and Viv interview Breck's father who tells them he is willing to pay anything to get Breck back. Jack tells him to hold off, they aren't thinking kidnapping at this point. Jack asks if Breck's been having any other problems, enemies, conflicts? Or does he have any disgruntled employees? He says not that he knows of. They question him about Breck's history as a hard core party goer into drugs, booze, women, etc. He tells them that he talked to Breck on the phone a few weeks ago and thought he was finally doing good, that he was clean. He tells them that in spite of Breck's behavior he had a "good heart" and that's when he decided to get tough with him. Jack asks him what he means and Mr. Mallory tells him that the last time he saw Breck was several months ago.

*Flashback* Breck is being held in a police station for possession with intent to sell. Mr. Mallory shows up and starts railing into him. Breck claims that he was framed, etc. Mr. Mallory tells him to stop, that he's done with him, fed up. He tells Breck he will pay his legal fees and basic expenses but for the most part he will be cut off for at least a year. Breck gets angry and Mallory tells him he is getting more than he deserves. Breck accuses him of being just as undeserving (I'm guessing this implies that Mr. Mallory is a trust fund kid too.). Mallory replies that at least he didn't embarrass his family. When it is clear that Mr. Mallory isn't going to budge Breck starts pleading etc. but Mallory just watches him get taken away. *End Flashback*

Mr. Mallory tells Jack that when they talked on the phone it was good even though it didn't end well. He tells them that Breck asked for $30K dollars for repairs to Haven House (a charity organization where Breck started working). He didn't give him the money because he was committed to waiting a year. Viv questions if he didn't think the money was for something else. He admits it crossed his mind. They show him a photo a scary looking dude and Mallory eyes it warily.

Updated 3/1/06
A woman named Tyra admits to seeing him (the man in the photo).....more on this later

Page picks up mid-scene*Flashback*Breck is at Haven House and is teaching the kids how to make paper airplanes. A gangbanger dude named Felipe enters and demands to talk to a woman named Maritza. Breck tries to get him out but Felipe grabs his arm. Fortunately Breck is able to wrangle his way out and knock Felipe to the floor. He shouts to call the police. *End Flashback*

*Flashback* Breck is telling Tyra that when the police came they wanted to talk to Maritza and one of them stepped into a hole in the floor. The police called a building inspector and now they have a long list of fines, etc. They had to clear out six units until the repairs are made. Tyra laments that it's going to cost a fortune and Breck agrees. A little girl named Loretta approaches and asks if she really has to go stay at the shelter. He tells her that it's only for a little while and Tyra isn't happy that he might be making a promise he can't keep. Loretta asks him to hold onto her doll because it's not safe for her doll at the shelter. *End Flashback*

Sam asks how much it was going to cost and Tyra tells her near $90 thousand. She said Breck was working hard toward raising it. He brought in nearly $20 thousand that first week. Tyra tells them that most of their money came from churches but Breck was able to tap into a whole new network of wealth. Sam asks for a list of names of the donors. Tyra tells them that after he tapped them though, the donations slowed but he got them near $50 thousand. But even so, those famillies are still in the shelter.

Message  Mali le Jeu 9 Mar - 18:35

suite :

Sam and Elena are speculating on who "scary guy" is to Breck and Elena thinks that maybe he borrowed money for Haven House and when he couldn't pay it back maybe "scary guy" came after him.

Martin and Danny are canvassing the neighborhood around Haven House. He's frustrated but Danny found an old man who speaks spanish (lots of fun Danny speaking en espanol). The old man says he saw Breck turn the corner when a silver Cadillac Escalade pulls up and three white guys jump out and grab him.

*Flashback* Breck walking, the Escalade pulls up, three guys jump out and throw a pillow case over his head. They drag him into the SUV and drive off. *End Flashback*

The viejo is also able to provide them with a partial plate and is very pleased with himself. (He sounds cute.) Martin and Danny talk about how this is seeming like a textbook kidnapping.

Elena and Viv are talking. Viv tells her that she got a hit on a silver Escalade that ran a light a few minutes after Breck's "abduction." It is registered to a Todd Kipling of Scarsdale. It was one of those camera tickets so there is a pic of a handsome Blonde man in the passenger seat and a blonde woman in the driver's seat.

**The Sam and Elena interview is intercut with Martin and Jack's**
Sam and Elena interview Todd Kipling. Todd is not short on self-esteem. Elena asks him what was his girlfriends hurry and he replies that she isn't his girlfriend - he's available. Sam and Elena exchange a look.

Cut to Jack and Martin talking to Heidi Porter (the blonde girl). She's another trust fund kid. She tells them they were running late for a party and she didn't even know she ran the light. Martin tells her that their car matches the description from a kidnapping that same night. She tells him it wasn't a kidnapping, it was a goof. He asks if Breck knew about it and she tell s him no, it would've ruined the surprise.

Todd expalins it wasn't so much a surprise as an intervention. That Breck is so busy with his charity he doesn't hang out with them anymore. They wanted to bring him back into the group.

Heidi tells them that they've all been friends since forever. Breck is like her brother. She explains that she planned the party and Todd thought the kidnapping ruse would be funny.

*Flashback* The Escalade parks in front of the strip club. Breck has a hood over his head and is telling them he doesn't have any money, etc. Todd is with two other yuppie guys who yank the hood off to a stunned Breck. He is a mixture of relieved and irritated. They joke and call him "Father Theresa" complaining he never has time for them anymore. Breck tells him after what they did it's no wonder. He tells them thanks for the invite but they picked the worst possible night to do this, he's got to go. Heidi tells them they booked the entire club to celebrate him, the whole gang is waiting and they miss him. *End Flashback*

They ask her where Breck was hurrying off to and she tells them she didn't know, he was "all messed up." Martin asks what she means, were their drugs at the party? She says she wouldn't know, it's "not her thing." Jack gets really tough and asks her if she wouldn't recognize drugs if she saw them. She gets nervous and tells them to ask Breck and he informs her that he disappeared the same night as the party. He demands that she tell them everything she remembers from that night and she seems genuinely shocked that Breck is missing. She pulls it together and tells them about the night he disappeared.

*Flashback* A big bunch of friends and scantily clad barmaids are in a strip club's private room. Heidi asks Breck to talk to her and he downs a shot. He tells her he's had a bad few days and she tells him she thought he was doing fine. He was preaching the joys of philanthropy, etc. He tells her that he just wanted to do some good but screwed it all up. Someone yells for Breck and when he turns around there are a bunch of lines of cocaine on the table. He is tempted but Heidi tells the guy that Breck is through with that stuff. Breck shrugs her off and snorts some lines. She tells him he should eat but he ignores her. He pulls out his cell phone and tries to get a signal but no luck. He asks if there is a pay phone around and Heidi continues trying to talk to him. He tells her not to make a big deal, he grabs his daypack and walks out. *End Flashback*

Jack stares at her hard and tells her, "So the correct answer is 'Yes, he was messed up on drugs." Heidi shrinks under it all and says she didn't want to rat out her friend. Martin asks if she had ever seen him that down before and she tells him that Breck was always hard on himself, trying to do the right thing. He gives her pen and paper and tells her he's going to need a list of names and numbers for all the people at the party. She asks if she can call her dad to which Jack tells her, "No, names and numbers."

Viv and Elena are talking. Viv says that someone at the strip club confirmed that the party went until closing and was paid for by Todd Kipling and Heidi Porter. Elena jokes for wealthy people they know how to slum it. Viv is tracing calls from the payphone and it seems one was made to Connecticut to a E.M. Danforth. Viv and Elena look at a Donor’s List for Haven House and come across the name Elizabeth Danforth who donated $5K.

Viv and Danny interview Elizabeth “Betty” Danforth (a refined divorcee). She seems genuinely concerned that Breck is missing. She says that explains why Breck was late. They question why he would be visiting her so late in the evening and she says he would drop by occasionally…..(insert innuendo). She tells them that she and Breck had a little thing going a few years ago but she ended it because their world was too small. She ran into him recently at a Guggenheim function.

*Flashback* Breck is talking to her about how he is trying to raise money for Haven House. He’s showing blueprints and photos of the house that needs repairs. Then he tells Betty that he is holding onto a doll from a little girl who asked him to hold if for her until she can move back to Haven House. Betty tells him to talk about that and not the logistics of the repairs. He told her he was told to keep mum on that stuff so that people are made to feel guilty around all the priceless works of art. She tells him she would like to give him more money but her accountant already thinks the checks she wrote him were too generous. He puts his hand on hers and tells her she has been so kind. Then she asks for his help in removing her necklace, she is clearly excited by the intimacy of the act. She gives him the necklace and tells him to not let Sotheby’s give him less than $6K for it. He says he couldn’t possibly and then she seductively tells him that they have to be “discreet”. She kisses him and he is conflicted by what the act and acceptance of the gift mean. However, they still proceed and the gown falls to the floor. *End Flashback*

She tells Viv and Danny (who is suppressing a smile – he loves this type of stuff) that it’s not necessarily a renewed relationship but more of an arrangement. They ask her how often and she tells them once or twice a week. Danny explains to her that he has been bringing in a lot of “in-kind donations”. Betty wonders if they are all from her but then it dawns on her that it isn’t. Viv asks if maybe she wasn’t his only “exclusive engagement” and Betty confesses that she might have told a few friends. Viv asks if she thinks any of them would want an arrangement of their own to which Betty replies, “Who wouldn’t?” Viv comments that Breck has been prostituting himself for charity and Betty comments that is an ugly word. Viv asks if gigolo is better and judging by Betty’s smile, yes.

Martin and Elena are running through some possible suspects - no luck. Sam joins them and has the list of all the items that Breck sold Sotheby's. It seems that he sold them a vase worth $5K but it was part of a set which meant that Sotheby's was compelled to contact the previous owner for approval. Martin surmises that if they did it might have blown the cover on someone's "arrangement."

Jack and Sam interview, Chloe Whitney who looks distraught. She asks if it is regarding her husband, Clayton, who is in the Hamptons. Sam notices that Chloe has a fading black eye. They ask her when was the last time she saw Breck - maybe he did it to her. She argues that Breck would never. Sam tells her they know about the "arrangement" but she does it very smoothly. Chloe tells them that Breck came over the night before he disappeared.

*Flashback* Chloe answers the door and there is Breck, whose smile vanishes at seeing her eye. She tells him that Clayton knows about them. Sotheby's called and put it together. Clayton went to the Hamptons and is demanding a divorce but she doesn't care. She tells Breck that they can finally be together. Breck explains that while she is great he believed that they were just sticking to their "arrangement." She is humiliated and heartbroken. *End Flashback*

Chloe tells him she hasn't seen Breck or her husband since that day. They show her a photo of "scary guy" but she doesn't recognize him. Jack asks her if she thinks her husband may have hurt Breck if he found out about them. She says no but she also has a black eye so......

Martin hangs up the phone and sks Elena where Sam is. She tells him that she's on her way. It seems Danny is in the Hamptons and is able to confirm that Mr. Whitney's alibi checks outs but he did admit to calling Haven House and telling them what Breck was really up to. Martin storms off clearly annoyed because.....

Martin and Sam are talking to a woman named Tyra who runs Haven House. They are angry that she lied to them about how Breck was really raising the money. They rail into her for withholding what she knew about Breck but she said she was just trying to make sure they didn't shut down Haven House. Sam asks why she thinks they would do that and she tells her that if word got out they would lose the church's support and they would have to close. She loves Breck and wants to find him but didn't want to risk it. Martin tells her that there was most likely a connection to Breck's disappearance and by not telling them she is risking Breck's life. Sam asks what she did when Whitney told her what Breck was up to and Tyra says that is not how she found out.

4x20: "More Than This Empty Re: 4x20: "More Than This

Message  Mali le Jeu 9 Mar - 18:36

et suite :

*Flashback* Breck is holding a doll given to him by a little girl named Loretta. He looks forlorn. Tyra is railing into him and asks why he thought the only way to raise the money was to screw rich old women. She asks him what he was thinking, why would he do that? He tells her that he didn't want to disappoint Loretta - that for the first time in his life someone looked at him as if he could make a difference in her life. He didn't want to let her down. Tyra tells him that his actions risked getting them shut down, what was Loretta going to do then? What about the other kids? She tells him he has to quit what he's doing. He can help but not that way. He tells her he will make it right. She isn't sure he can but he says that she has to let him try. He needs Haven House. *End Flashback*

Tyra tells them that he had done so much she couldn't say no. They ask what he was going to do and she tells them that he still had some 'in kind donations' from the older women he hadn't cashed in and he wanted to return them. The "donations" were pieces of expensive jewelry that he kept in a red daypack. Martin and Sam share a look like they know what she is talking about.

Viv and Elena are at their computers when Danny walks up. He asks Elena to run a name for him and she jokes, "Your computer broken?" to which he replies for her to give him a break because he had just spent a lot of time at the NYPD Pawn Shop Division. He tells them that the vase Mrs. Whitney gave Breck was part of set...End Page

Danny and Elena interview Nazar Rahim, a bling-bling bully. Danny tells him not to deny knowing Breck (they have a photo of him shoving Breck) and he tells them that Breck owed him money. Danny asks what for? Drugs? Nazar replies that he is a businessman - in the business of looking good. Elena scoffs at his tackiness. They ask how much Breck owed him and he tells them $5K. That he had given him a vase that was supposed to be worth $5K but it was only worth $1K. Elena tells him that Breck wasn't lying, it was worth much. He just got screwed over by his pawn shop connection. Nazar "blinks at his own stupidity". Danny tells him that Breck is missing and he looks good for it. With his list of felonies they have no problem holding him and he argues that he didn't touch Breck. Danny asks if he tried to grab Breck's bag and he replies yes but that's because he owed him money.

*Flashback* It is the live-action version from the scary photo at the Haven House. Nazar argues Breck tried to cheat him but Breck replies he told him to go sell it at Sotheby's, it isn't his fault he didn't listen. Nazar tries to grab Brecks day pack but Breck yanks it back. Nazar threatens to go after "her" for the money but Breck tells him to leave her out of it. He settled it, he paid him. That she has enough problems and Nazar is helping to kill her. Nazar raises a fist to hit him but Breck doesn't flinch. Nazar, in typical bully fashion, backs down and pokes Breck saying, "Don't tell me what to do." *End Flashback*

Nazar tells them that maybe Breck and the girl are hiding from him. Clearly, they know there is no way Breck would be afraid of Nazar. They ask for the name of the girl and Nazar tries to negotiate for money. Danny and Elena are really annoyed by him.

I think at some point they find Breck dead but I'm not sure when.

Jack and Martin are interviewing Heidi again. She is crumbling under their interrogation. They discover that the party at the strip club was to thank Breck but then Nazar came around wanting his money. She says she didn't mean it.

*Flashback* Back in the strip club only know it's the true version and not Heidi's version. Someone yells out for Breck. He turns around to a big bunch of yuppie guys next to a table with a bunch of lines of cocaine on it. He dismisses it while Heidi grabs a straw and does a line. She comes up looking a mess and Breck looks at her sadly. She tells him to not pity her, she's stressed and he was supposed to help her. He tells her that he will, he'll talk to Nazar but not tonight. He has to go do something. She asks where he's going and he shows her the contents of the daypack, diamond bracelets and brooches. He wants to return the items that mark the stupidest thing he'd ever done. She exclaims that just one of those "would take care of Nazar." He tells her no, they aren't his and they certainly aren't Nazar's. He pulls out his cell phone but can't get a signal. She begs him when He grabs her hand and tells her he's getting her out of there. They disappear into the crowd. *End Flashback*

Heidi tells them that he found a payphone, made a call and they left. Martin asks if they left in Todd's Escalade and she tells him that they took a cab and picked up Breck's car. They drove into Westchester.

*Flashback* Heidi and Breck are in the car. She tells him that returning the brooch would mean nothing to the woman who gave it to him but he tells her it would mean something to him. He reaches over and grabs the brooch and daypack, placing them between himself and the driver side door. She accuses him of not trusting her and he tells her she has to earn trust. She said she could always count on him but he went all goody two shoes and doesn't have time for her. He tells her that things are turning around. She tells him she still needs to pay off Nazar. He tells her to forget Nazar. He's going to convince her parents to give her the money to pay Nazar, she'll go back to rehab, get clean and come work with him at the charity. She tells him she wants to be better but she doesn't know if she can. He tells her she can, he didn't know it was what he needed but now he does. She smiles and asks to see the bag again. That if he just gave her one little diamond she'll do anything he says. He replies no and she argues that she thought he trusted her. She reaches across his lap for the bag, they struggle and he loses control of the wheel and they crash. *End Flashback*

She tells them they slid down an embankment and hit a tree on the drivers side. She tells them that it was an accident, she didn't mean it. Martin asks her if she got out of the car and followed the lights to the train station. Jack adds, "Carrying Breck's bag?" She says no but Martin tells her they searched the car and it wasn't there. Jack threatens her with a search warrant before she confesses.

*Flashback* Heidi is in the car and coming to when she notices Breck is clearly dead. She said when no help came she panicked, took the bag and left. *End Flashback*

She is sobbing and says that Breck was the only real friend she ever had.....

Time has passed.

Martin and Sam stand next to Walter Mallory at Haven House which looks great; cleaner, newer, etc. There is a plaque that bears Breck's likeness. Women and kids are cheering as Tyra thanks Mr. Mallory for carrying on the wonderful work his son started.... (end page)
